UK Trade Sanctions & Other Restrictions

  • Posted on

The Department for International Trade (DIT) has overall responsibility for putting into effect trade sanctions and other trade restrictions.

The Export Control Joint Unit (ECJU) is part of the DTI. The ECJU may grant licence authorisation thereby permitting otherwise prohibited activities.

The following activities may be subject to trade restrictions:

  • the import, export and movement of goods and technology
  • the provision and supply of services
  • the involvement of UK people in these activities

It is a criminal offence to export controlled goods without the requisite authority.
